Allergy & Sinusitis

One out of every five individuals suffer from allergies or sinusitis.

Conventional treatment including allergen avoidance and medications work for most of them. However, for those in which treatment has failed, sinus surgery or allergen desensitization through weekly or biweekly injections in  the clinic has been the only alternatives. Now, in addition to allergy testing with our dedicated nurse, we now offer kits to take home for patients to do their own desensitization

Paralleling medicine’s trend for less invasive procedures while decreasing costs and adverse events, newer        treatments for sinusitis and allergies have evolved. Sublingual immunotherapy consists of placing drops under the tongue in the convenience of one’s own home. Because of its proven safety and efficacy, it has been used almost exclusively in Europe for the past two decades. Benefits include lower cost, less clinic visits, and easier acceptance especially for children. We now know that early allergy treatment in children decreases the likelihood of developing asthma and other chronic conditions later in life.

In the past several years Balloon Sinuplasty has also become an attractive alternative to conventional sinus surgery. A catheter is placed into the sinus drainage channels and inflated, gently dilating the obstruction found in chronic sinusitis. Since there is no cutting or removal of tissue, there is minimal discomfort and many can resume normal activity the next day.
